Adult Autism Reads

I thought it might be helpful to compile some of my favorite adult autism books. These are targeted at an older population of neurodivergent minds - it can be difficult to wade through the materials that are meant for younger kids (or for their parents). Here’s some of my favorite picks - in no particular order.

Adult Autism Reads

Unmasking Autism: Discovering the New Faces of Neurodiversity by Devon Price, PhD

Unmasking for Life: The Autistic Person’s Guide to Connecting, Loving, and Living Authentically by Devon Price, PhD

Un-Typical: How the World Isn’t Built for Autistic People and What We Should All Do About it by Pete Wharmby

The Autistic’s Guide to Self-Discovery by Sol Smith

Both of the books by Dr. Devon Price are phenomenal - Dr. Price has a gift for sharing information about autism in a way that blends scientific data and unique, lived experiences. While these reading recommendations are left in no particular order… Unmasking Autism is my #1 favorite recommendation.

Pete Wharmby and Sol Smith are two authors who have also done an excellent job combining science with experience. I think there’s something to be said about reading books about autism by autistic authors - there is something about that lived experience that makes these books extra special.

So what do we think - did I miss any good ones?

Comment with any that you think I should add to the list!
